Three-day Voluntourism Training Event Invite – Community Innovations!
Developing Quality Volunteering Programs
Hotel Lero, Dubrovnik
22. – 24.2.2017

A vacation devoted exclusively to rest and relaxation is a thing of the past. Sunbathing and swimming on the beach may still hold enough value to some, but most tourists desire a little more while on holiday. Today most tourists yearn for activities with a higher purpose, striving to leave their mark somehow on the places they visit, widen their horizons, help those in need and build character in the process. Voluntourism combines the best intentions of civil sector efforts with the thrill and adventure of traveling to have a stimulating vacation, one that serves public interest, society and community. Voluntourism offers, as the term suggests, travel for rest paired with volunteering at the destination.

The first modular training session for representatives of the public, the private and the civil sectors within the "Open up a border for adventure and new travel opportunities" project, will take place in Dubrovnik from 22.-24.2.2017 at Hotel Lero. The topics for this session are volunteering management and social entrepreneurship. This will be the first of two three-day training sessions within this project.

The objectives of this training session will be to develop / improve the current abilities, skills, knowledge and attitudes of volunteering coordinators, to help them develop / improve their voluntourism programs, also improving their own knowledge about social entrepreneurship models, the types of corporate social responsibility and the possibilities such business models open in the development of products in tourism.

This training, intended for volunteering coordinators from associations, public institutions (health, education, welfare, culture), trusts, foundations, religious institutions, bodies of government on the local and regional level, tourism boards and unions, does not exclude representatives of the private, for-profit sector who are ready to back the promotion of voluntourism programs and can contribute to inter-sector cooperation and program sustainability.

Nikoleta Poljak and Jelena Kamenko, expert associates for both volunteer and social entrepreneurship development will carry out the training session as follows:
-    22.veljače; 13.00 – 18.30h
-    23. veljače; 9.00 – 16.30h
-    24. veljače; 9.00 – 13.00h

Consultations, if need arises, will take place right after the sessions in agreement with the trainers.

One organisation can register two participants at most, of whom attendance is expected at all of the sessions (all three days). Because the number of available spots is limited, we reserve the right of choice should we receive too many applications.

All participants are guaranteed free consultations, refreshments, work materials and room to work, as well as coverage for logistics costs (full coverage for public transportation costs, partial coverage for travel by car with advance notice and under previously agreed upon terms, full coverage for accommodation and meals in Hotel Lero).

If you are interested in taking part in this event, please fill out and send this application form to us either via email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., or via fax 021/329-131, by February 15th at the latest.

We hope you will recognize the significance of this training effort and use it to build on and improve your organisation’s capacities in the field of voluntourism program development.

This project is implemented under the EU program on cross-border IPA component II, the Program on Cross-Border Cooperation Croatia – Montenegro 2012-2013, with the aim of strengthening the cooperation between the public, profit and non-profit sectors by developing voluntourism as an innovative and distinctive product on joint tourism territory of Croatian-Montengrin border areas.
